The idea for Smart Kid was actually conceived following a devastating experience. After going through a difficult divorce and custody proceeding, I ached knowing the grief it also caused for my child. I failed at marriage but was not going to fail at parenthood. It would not become part of my story.
I wanted to circumvent the negative effects reported in the literature concerning divorce and children....the toll it takes on their self-esteem and confidence. The creation of the Smart Kid character grew out of my intense desire to challenge the statistics. My line of bedding and pajamas, Sweet Dreams for a Smart Kid, was a tangible way of enveloping my child with additional messages of love and success as he falls off to sleep and when he awakes - to let him know that he can and will succeed.
No matter what the relationship to the child(ren) in your life: be it parent, aunt, uncle, guardian, teacher, neighbor, mentor - the nurturing love and care for the child is of paramount importance. Every child should experience the best that life has to offer and one of the foundations is to instill good values and foster self-esteem and self-confidence. If you think it, you can be it. Smart Kids become even smarter adults. Reinforce the cycle of smart and responsible citizens.
